The Fire Inside — Six Years in the Making

Grief does not announce itself with a schedule. It arrives when it arrives, takes what it takes, and leaves you standing in the middle of your own life trying to remember what you were doing before it got there.

Six years ago I started writing a story. I did not know then that I was trying to survive something.

That is what writing does, if you let it. It gives the unbearable a shape you can look at from the outside. It does not fix anything — I want to be clear about that, because I think we do a disservice to grief when we promise it a clean ending. But it gives you somewhere to put the weight while you figure out how to carry it differently. For me that somewhere became the world of Erest.

What started as a story I titled The Journey Home became something I could not stop building. Characters who carried grief the way real people carry it — not gracefully, not in straight lines, not toward tidy resolution. A prophet who holds things he cannot say. Sisters who would destroy themselves for each other. A woman who woke up with no memory of how she got where she is and had to decide what to do with that. People forged by loss into shapes they did not choose and could not entirely control.

Over the past year I made a decision to stop treating this as just a novel and start building the world it had always been trying to become. Story, art, poetry, music — all of it occupying the same space, all of it coming from the same source.

This website is where that world gets shared.

It has been a long journey to get here. Six years of building something in the middle of something else entirely. What came out the other side was more than a book — it was a world, and this is where it opens.

The journey has been a long one. This is where it starts being yours too.
