What is The Fire Inside?
The Fire Inside is an original fantasy universe currently being written into a full saga. But it’s more than just a book. It’s a world — with its THE WORLD OF EREST
Erest is a world still bleeding from a war between gods. Five kingdoms hold a peace that nobody believes in. And somewhere in the north, a woman with no memory of who she is just woke up in a valley of bones and started walking.
This is where her story begins.

The Fire Inside is a dark fantasy novel set in the world of Erest, where grief is not just a memory but a ghost that refuses to leave. It is an odyssey across the landscape of the broken heart — a place where sorrow can calcify into paralyzing fear, ignite into a crusade built on lies, or chill into a cold, all-consuming vengeance.
It is the story of Missy Haines, a woman who woke up with no past and a fire she cannot explain, and the world that was already broken before she arrived in it. It asks hard questions about survival, about what we carry for the people we love, and about whether a soul can be reborn from the fire — or whether the flames simply forge us into something new and more dangerous.
The Fire Inside is currently in final revision. Publication updates will be announced here and on Patreon first.
Enter the World

Paul Lytton
Governor of Dae Lamare
He is built more for woodcutting than politics and he would tell you so himself. He lost his wife a decade ago and has been holding everything together ever since — his children, his city, his grief — with the specific stubbornness of a man who does not know how to stop

Tau’Ren
The Dark Elf
He has more identities than he can count and trusts almost no one. He is the most dangerous person in any room he enters and he would prefer you did not know he was there at all. His reasons for being involved in this story are his own. His methods are not always clean. His loyalties, when they form, are absolute.

Jonathan Basilla
The Gallan’tes
He was an ordinary man once. A scholar. A Learner. The kind of person who read in the margins and believed the institution he served stood for something worth serving. He was wrong about that. What it cost him to find out is the whole of his story, and he carries it with the specific discipline of someone who has learned to carry enormous things without putting them down.

Anastasia Del’Rey
The Wind Wytch
She is the sole heir of House Del’Rey of Alazonia and she walks into every room like she owns it, which in certain rooms she does. She is bold and loyal and more dangerous than she appears, which is saying something because she appears quite dangerous. She is Missy’s closest friend.

Amelia Lytton
The Governor’s Eldest
She commands every room she enters and does it quietly, which is the most effective way. She has been responsible for everyone around her since she was sixteen and she has the interior architecture of someone who learned early that love and loss were the same transaction. She does not ask for help. She does not need to. She simply does what needs to be done.

Esherah Lytton
The Dark Daughter
She sees things others do not. She always has. The cold gray eyes that miss nothing, the power that arrived before she had the language for it, the specific terror of a girl who loves fiercely and is afraid that everything she loves is temporary. She is fourteen years old and she is already more than the world is ready for
Before the Story, There Were Stories
Every major character in The Fire Inside has a life that precedes the novel. The short story collection explores those lives — who they were before the story began, what shaped them, and what they carry into it. These are not backstory summaries. They are complete stories, told in full, with their own beginnings and endings and the specific weight of things that happened to real people in a real world.
Some of these stories are difficult. Some of them are necessary. All of them are true to the people they are about.
The Ash Road — Paul Lytton. The road he traveled in the year after his wife died, and what he brought back from it.
The Devil’s Gift — Amelia Lytton. What happened when she was sixteen and what it cost her and why she never speaks of it.
Blood Debt — Tau’Ren. The years before the story begins. The contracts, the debts, the specific price of being what he is.
The Weight of the Mountain — Jonathan Basilla. The road to Mount Tolkki and what Amal Rashah asked of him.
The Silver and the Fire — Elaisha Ren. A battle, a child, and what was paid for both.
The Light One — Kat Lytton. Two years before the story begins. The night that made her.
The Private Journals of Missy Haines

These journals were found among Missy Haines’s personal effects. They were written during her first days at Castle Dumas, two years before the Royal Ball, while her father was missing and Prince Marc and Commander Lake had ridden out to find him.
They are the one place she wrote the true things. About the fire in her hands she could not explain. About the sleeping sickness. About the necklace that once belonged to her mother and the name she did not yet know to call her. About waiting for a man she was trying very hard not to love yet, in a world that was already too complicated for that.

The World of Erest

Three hundred years before the events of The Fire Inside, the gods went to war. The world that survived it is a different world from the one that preceded it — smaller, more careful, built on the ruins of things that used to be larger. The five kingdoms that emerged from the aftermath have been managing their grief and their politics ever since, with varying degrees of success. Magic exists in this world the way old injuries exist: present in some people, absent in others, never entirely predictable, and carrying the specific weight of something that has been here longer than anyone alive can fully account for.
The Day of Desolation, ten years before the story begins, killed millions and reorganized everything that remained. It is the event that all other events in The Fire Inside are measured against. Nobody who survived it came through unchanged. Nobody who was born after it came through without being shaped by the shadow of it.
Erest is a world that is still deciding what it is. The Fire Inside takes place in the middle of that decision.
